Naworth was the Earl of Carlisle’s private station when opened in 1844, later extended to include accommodation for the Stationmaster and made into a public station. Nestled in beautiful woodland and without near neighbours, it was never very busy and closed in 1952. Now sympathetically restored, the house has retained its character and is a wonderful place to watch the trains go by on the Newcastle to Carlisle line. The main bedroom is upstairs and has a splendid view down the line towards Brampton, while the new garden room is the perfect place to observe trains coming from the Haltwhistle direction. There are extensive gardens, plenty of parking, plus the bonus of a private water supply and drainage. Hadrian’s Wall and Lanercost Priory are a stone’s throw away, and there is easy access to the A69 and the attractive market town of Brampton (just 5 minutes distant), which has its own active station with ten services calling each way daily. Offers in the region of £395,000.
