Located in North Herefordshire, Rowden Mill Station is a former GWR railway station along the Bromyard Branch between Leominster and Worcester.
Externally the restoration is done in exacting detail, recreating the look of the station during the latter years of operation and features platform lights, signboards, timetables and posters of the late 1940’s / early 1950’s. The site includes several hundred metres of double track, two platforms and much more by way of recreated detail. For sunny days, a large gas BBQ is provided.
The station buildings are situated on the main platform, with relaxing views over the hills of North Herefordshire. After dark, the whole platform can be lit by original platform lighting. Internally both buildings have been restored sympathetically with period features while at the same time converted to practical modern living.
The Station Building sleeps up to four guests in two bedrooms: an elegant double that occupies the former Ladies’ Waiting Room, and the Porters’ Room, which features adult-sized bunks.
The lounge is the building’s former waiting room. With its tall sash windows, wood-burning stove, and Ercol chairs, the scene is set for cosy evenings in, snuggled up with a good book, or a good film on the DVD player. There’s also a daylight-flooded Victorian bathroom and a modern, cottage-style kitchen-diner converted from the booking office.
Outside, the platform canopy offers a perfect alfresco dining area, with far-reaching views over rolling countryside, and a cushioned three-seater bench to help you watch the world go by in style.
Along the platform is the Parcel Office, original to the station. The Parcel Office, when in conjunction with the Station Building, works very well as an annexe for larger families or groups of friends whom can also enjoy its home-cinema experience.
Please see our separate listing if you would also like to book the Parcel Office.
